Trojans pick up five weekend commitments
While some may have rested over the past weekend, the Troy coaching staff was working overtime.
The Trojans picked up five commitments, four of them from the high-school ranks.
The lone junior college player is Maurice Greer from Garden City (Kan.) Community College.
The 5-11, 205-pounder helped the Broncbusters to an 8-3 record and to the Kansas Junior College playoffs. Greer is rated a two-star performer by Rivals.
The Trojans did not go far up Highway 231 to get Terrence Williams. The 6-0, 190-pound linebacker was named to the All-Montgomery Metro team. He amassed 79 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks.
Florida was the destination for the other three weekend commitments.
Milton product Talris Brown is slated as an athlete for the Trojans as he played both running back and linebackers for the Panthers. He comes from the same prep program who sent Lawrence Tynes to Troy. Tynes will be busy this weekend as the placekicker in the Super Bowl for the New York Giants.
Farther south, Troy picked up a verbal from running back Albert Gary of Citra (Fla.) North Marion. He was an all-state free safety as a sophomore and junior and was the Florida Dairy Farmers' 3A Player of the Year after scoring a county record 35 touchdowns.
Rivals' two-star running back Chris Anderson of Lauderdale Lakes (Fla.) Boyd Anderson was the weekend's other verbal commitment. He had offers from Indiana, Kansas State, Miami (Fla.), UCF and Wisconsin.
