Small but explosive package heading to Troy

Big things come in small packages.

If the old adage is true, Troy fans can expect some huge things in the next four years in the Trojan backfield.

Chris Perry, a running back from Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Fla., has verbally committed to play his college football at Troy.

Although he stands just 5-feet-9 and weighs 170 pounds, he runs a legitmate 4.35 40-yard dash.

"I really liked the school when I visited," Perry said. "Not just the football program, but the school. I'm real excited."

In his senior season at Lake Howell, Perry ran for 1,150 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. That talent led him to be recruited my several Florida schools such as UCF and Sun Belt members Florida International and Florida Atlantic.

"Yeah, those conference schools might not be happy to see me in Alabama," Perry said. "But Troy is where I felt most at home."

Recruited by Chad Scott to Troy, Perry did get a flavor of home on his recruting visit.

"Yeah, I got to meet Omar (Haugabook)," Perry said. "He is from Florida and he said he loved it in Troy and I believe him."

A future sports medicine major, the departure of Kenny Cattouse and Sean Dawkins from the Troy backfield may put Perry on the field sooner rather than later.

"I think I will have a chance to play early," Perry said. "I am just ready to get to work and get on the field."
