TroyReport.com A - Conference Championship Material B - Solid Performance C - Not Quite Ready for the Game D - Very Disappointing F - Complete Disaster
Quarterbacks - Corey Robinson turned in another nice performance in terms of moving the football with 343 yards passing. The junior did, however, throw two interceptions against Mississippi State. In Monday's press conference both Robinson and offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield said one was forgivable while the other, a late, deep throw to a post route, should have never happened.
Overall Grade: B-
Running Backs - Shawn Southward rushed for 137 yards and Justin Albert for another 52. Southward, who also caught five passes for 30 yards, just missed breaking a couple of long TD runs, being tripped up by the last defender.
Overall Grade: A-
Wide Receivers - Troy limited their number of dropped passes this week, but receivers once again had trouble holding on to the ball once it was caught. Chip Reeves fumbled on the fourth play of the second quarter at the MSU 30. The Bulldogs would score two plays later to go ahead 16-7. Reeves finished with nine catches for 79 yards. Eric Thomas hauled in seven passes for 74.
Overall Grade: B-
Offensive Line - Troy's offensive line didn't allow a sack nor a quarterback hurry. The offense was also able to establish the run. This despite playing a down a guard in Zach Johnson. Jimmie Arnold got the start at right guard and did a fine job.
Overall Grade: A
Defensive Line - Troy's defensive line didn't do anything special, but they also didn't get blown off the ball for the most part. MSU created some big holes in the run game at times. Fact remains, this unit still has work to do.
Overall Grade: C
Linebackers - Kanorris Davis had 10 tackles, two for loss. This group did a good job of forcing MSU quarterback Tyler Russell to get the ball out quickly with the blitz.
Overall Grade: B
Defensive Backs - Troy's secondary held Russell to just 11-for-26, but touchdown passes of 72, 58 and 25 yards killed the Trojans. Chad Bumphis caught 6 passes for a career-high 180 yards and three scores.
Overall Grade: C-
Special Teams - Troy punter Will Scott had a 21-yard punt early in the game. Scott also missed a 26-yard field goal just before halftime. Returner Justin Albert fumbled a punt and the kickoff return team dropped two balls, costing the Trojans field position.
Overall Grade: F
Team Performance - Troy has proven this season that the offensive can move the ball against anyone. They just can't seem to hold on to it. The defense looked really good at times, but big plays killed. The special teams looked completely out of sync.
Overall Grade: C
