Mathews being patient

TroyReport.com Butler, Ga., defensive tackle Larry Mathews hasn't visited every school that has offered him just yet and that's understandably a big reason why he's holding out on making his decision.
Mathews did tell TroyReport.com that his list is beginning to take shape, however.
"I'm liking Western Kentucky and Georgia State right now," Mathews said. "I like the environment at Western Kentucky. Coach Bill Curry at Georgia State is great, I like him a lot. They are real good people."
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Mathews said he was holding back until he visited a couple more schools.
"I'm giving it time because I still haven't seen Middle Tennessee or Troy so I'm taking a couple of visits during the fall," he said.
Mathews went on to say that he had not set up a date with Middle Tennessee State but was planning on attending Troy's Oct. 11 match with Western Kentucky.
The Taylor County High School senior said whatever team lands his commitment will be getting a physical player.
"I really love contact," he said. "I know I can play at any level and control the game."
He also described his strengths.
"I have a really quick first step," Mathews said. "Once I beat you off the ball I know I've got you."
Mathews said he has set a timetable of late October to make his college choice.
Taylor County lost its season opener to Irwin County 35-14.
